In this edition of our Meet the Team series, we’re excited to introduce Inez Williams‑King, Director of The Grower and co‑founder alongside her husband, Chris.

Balancing part‑time role with her other work and family Life, Inez works behind the scenes shaping the business of today, and preparing it for the future. Her work spans strategy, sustainability, brand growth, and designing a company rooted in environmental integrity and community.

Thoughtful, creative, and endlessly curious about how nature and people connect, Inez brings a slightly different angle to heart of The Grower.

What does your role involve day‑to‑day?

Although not always out in the yard, Inez’s role is central to the business.

Her focus includes:

  • Brand awareness and marketing strategy

  • Business strategy and future‑proofing

  • Identifying sustainable growth opportunities

  • Website development and digital direction

  • Tenders and procurement

  • Long‑term planning for 5‑, 10‑, and 20‑year horizons

It’s the kind of work that shapes what The Grower will become,  quietly, consistently, and thoughtfully.

What inspired you to enter this field?

Inez grew up on her family farm, but at 18, didn’t see a clear career path within agriculture as it was.

This led her to study Landscape Design, Restoration, and Management, followed by roles across:

  • Historic landscape conservation

  • Landscape planning

  • Landscape architecture

  • Environmental and rural land management

“It brings together everything I love,  being outdoors, history, art, environmental science, and the growing issues around climate change.”

She notes how it’s interesting her path led her back to farming but with a slightly different mindset.

What project are you most proud of?

Governs Woodland Planting, a woodland planting scheme set to become a new public park on the outskirts of Truro.

“Our friends, family, and community will enjoy that space for years to come. That makes me proud.”

What skill should everyone in your position have?

Listening.

Working across the environmental sector means collaborating with a wide range of specialists, ecologists, foresters, farmers, water managers, engineers, designers, archaeologists, transport planners and more.

Balancing these perspectives requires careful listening, empathy, and an ability to navigate conflicting priorities.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

“Creating sustainable employment and creating access to nature through work.”

How has your role evolved since starting The Grower?

As a co‑founder, the role grows as fast as the business does.

“We’re entrepreneurs, which isn't something I really identify with but I suppose best describes our journey over the last five years. Everything evolves at a scary rate, and we’re constantly learning.”

What challenges do you enjoy tackling?

Strategic ones, especially those that shape what comes next.

What might colleagues be surprised to learn about you?

Inez once lived in Nice, where she worked hard on learning French.

How do you like to start your morning?

Tea. Always tea. Tea is life.

Go‑to productivity hack?

Turning off emails and Teams notifications to create quiet, focused work time.

Favourite way to unwind after work?

Cuddling her little boy.

What are you currently reading, watching, or listening to?

Reading Natural Connection by Jocelyn Longdon (…alongside a few others, as any true book lover will admit).

If you weren’t in this career, what would you be doing?

Something creative, possibly costume design or textiles.

How would you describe the team culture?

Supportive.

Favourite thing about working at The Grower?

“Rewriting the rules, and challenging traditional stereotypes.”

What value matters most to you at work?

Compassion and empathy.

What advice would you give to someone joining the team?

“Throw yourself in and take every opportunity. Even the small things help you grow, and you never know what you’ll learn.”

What are you excited to learn this year?

Cell grown production, and how it can support the business into the future.

One goal you’re working towards right now?

Expanding The Grower’s customer range.

Your vision for the future of The Grower?

“To remain an environmental business with integrity  known for good advice, good trees, and a commitment to being here for the next 50, 60, 70 years.”
